{"id":1022,"date":"2023-02-24T16:23:55","date_gmt":"2023-02-24T16:23:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cametocean.com\/?page_id=1022"},"modified":"2025-06-10T01:37:36","modified_gmt":"2025-06-10T01:37:36","slug":"metocean-data-for-a-wind-farm-in-taiwan-strait-2022","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/cametocean.com\/?page_id=1022","title":{"rendered":"MetOcean data for a Windfarm in Taiwan Strait (2022)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Background<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Preliminary MetOcean data was required to support the development of a new wind farm in the Taiwan Strait.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Scope of work<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CA Metocean was appointed by<a href=\"https:\/\/www.stormgeo.com\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.stormgeo.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> StormGeo <\/a>Norway to provide MetOcean data at four locations in the area.                                                                                                 Deliverables included monthly and all-year cyclonic and non-cyclonic extreme data, as well as all-year and monthly non-cyclonic fatigue data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Key features<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>StormGeo provided fine scale waves (3x3km) and winds (1x1km) for each location of interest, which were used in conjunction with the ECMWF ERA5 data in the area to reconstruct 43-years long time series of waves and winds at each location of interest:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Using StormGeo\u2019s data as the \u201cpropagated\u201d data and the ECMWF ERA5 as the \u201coffshore\u201d data, interpolators for each location of interest were calculated using Radial Basis Functions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Several combinations of offshore data were tested to find the best set of interpolators<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Using the interpolators calculated from the overlapping years of data (12 for the winds and 2 for the waves), the re-constructed timeseries at each location of interest was calculated for the 43-years long period covered by the ERA5 data<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once the time series were reconstructed, they were cross-checked with other hindcasts to ensure consistency; then cyclonic data was identified and removed from the hindcast, lastly non-cyclonic results were derived.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cyclone extremes were derived using IBTrACSv04 data and Willoughby parametric model.
