Preliminary Assessment Studies

These are short studies, suitable for rapid assessment of offshore units (drilling rigs and jack ups approval) at any offshore site, for any season, direction or return period. They rely on readily available data, public domain literature and empirical/theoretical relationships and algorithms to derive the required information.

Deliverables usually consist of MetOcean extreme criteria, at requested return periods, optionally split by directions or seasons:

  • Extreme wind speed at requested levels and averaging periods
  • Extreme significant wave height and associated periods (peak, mean or zero-crossing periods)
  • Maximum wave height, associated period and crest elevation
  • Extreme residual (storm surge) and tidal levels
  • Extreme total currents at surface and through the water column
  • Split of cyclonic and non-cyclonic conditions as appropriate

Such studies typically take around 2-5 days to complete.
